Phase 2 of the Sunrise story

Dear All
I was involved with the completion of a sunrise 36 The Dazzler in 1995. On completion due to a change of circumstance the boat was sold after only a seasons use.
In 1997 the sunrise moulds became available. So I became involved again and moulded a Sunrise Sport 36 from scratch. This was sold on as part built to a South African. It was competed and I now believe the boat is in Greece.
I moulded a second boat in 1998 (my current Sunrise 36 Sport) called White Fin . I launched her part complete in 1999 in time for the eclipse of the sun in August of that year. I now keep her at Port Medoc France (near Bordeaux its warmer)
As you can imagine, I know a lot about Solaris Sunrise.
I would be happy to answer any questions. I have a lot of informations that might help. I am off tomy boat next weekend but Port Medoc is Wi Fi ed.

Interesting stuff. I am posting this from "Catkin" which is why it has taken a few days to reply.
What are the differences between the Sunrise Sport and the original Sunrise. I believe the Sport has a larger rig, but is that and the fact they were built by you as opposed to Solaris Yachts the only difference, or is there more to it?
Have you any photos of the boats being built?

The Sunrise Sport was developed by Malcom Taylor. It consists of two large glassfiber plugs that are set in the deck of the 2 aft cabins when the deck is molded. The effect is two ordinary aft cabins, Prout Event style. The advantage is a large flat back area ideal for sunbathing BBQ's etc.
The other changes were made or suggested by Malcome Taylor (however customers could always spec thier own choice). These included Single motor in the central rear locker. Rig incleased to 44' Fully battern main in lazy jacks. Fore stay attached to fore beam using dolphin striker.
I do have photos of construction etc.
email me and I will send some stuff to you in the post.

As a follow up to the last post. White Fin has all the above Sunrise Sport 36 attributes except she has 2 x 27 hp Lombardini motors in each hull with shaft drive as opposed a single motor on a leg.

I believe Catkin was the original Sunrise 36. Is it the original name? If so then it was the boat that started it all.

Yes thats the original name and some of the notes I have say she was designed to the original owner's requirements.
She has had some modifications since then as well such as the bulbs/hydroplanes and the larger centre "hull" which indicate changes in the light of experience.
I had one of the very early Contessa 26's before Catkin too - seems to be a hobby of mine, colecting old boats!
I did actually see a couple of immaculate newer Sunrises before I bought Catkin and apart from the lower price there was definitely something else about Catkin that just felt right.
